April 20, 2015: Energy Minister H.E. Dr. Abdul Hussain bin Ali Mirza, as part of a national campaign to ensure safety at fuel supply stations, carried out a follow up field inspection visit accompanied by a number of senior officials from Bapco and National Oil and Gas Authority (NOGA).

The Minister and the accompanying delegation inspected fuel supply stations for national safety procedures to further the ongoing awareness programme launched in Kingdom of Bahrain in mid-April by NOGA under the slogan ‘Provide Safety’.

The event gave citizens an opportunity to meet with the Minister during his field visit and exchange ideas with him. The visit was part of promoting the campaign and in order to reinforce the commitment to safety standards among all petrol station visitors and educate anyone in the station vicinity on the need to strictly follow safety procedures.

Station staff and consumers were urged to be committed to follow all necessary precautionary measures and apply them to make fuel supply procedures and requirements obligatory. Topics such as fuel shortage, switching off car engines at petrol stations and such other safety instructions should be strictly followed to remain safe at filling stations. Mobile phone use and non-stop ignition were other sources of concern.

Another issue that was stressed was the use of the most suitable fuel in vehicles. Avoid taking buses loaded with passengers to filling stations to stock up fuel, was another message.

The fuel station workers and the general public met the Minister during his field visit and pledged their commitment to following guidelines. The campaign also includes distribution of gifts for those who can come up with creative ideas to make it more effective and successful.

The national sentiment was in support of the campaign and both citizens and residents have been very enthusiastic about the fuel supply station awareness drive, said the Minister.

Citizens expressed their happiness about the dissemination of information on safety measures and procedures to be followed at fuel stations and promised their commitment and behaviour modification in order to contribute to the success of the safety campaign.

The procedures to follow in order to promote the national awareness campaign are aimed to bring tangible positive results and safety in line with those at the refuelling stations in the Kingdom.

The public were enthusiastic about promoting fuel supply station safety and being part of the national awareness campaign focussed on public safety, for both citizens and residents and praised the endless efforts put forth by all concerned regulatory and advisory bodies.
